SEPHORA PLAY BOX 💄 FEBRUARY 2018 💄

SEPHORA
PLAY BOX
FEBRUARY 2018

February’s play box has a fun info sheet where there are different notes and messages in each boxes and you can cut them up to spread the good vibes. The typography of each box is super cute too! Plus dont forget the 6 products in the box too.

1. Farmacy Green clean makeup meltaway cleansing balm.

So you can start your face dry with this cleansing balm, scoop some and massage into the part of the face with makeup to remove and then wash off with water. It also works on eye makeup but you have to be abit more precise using fingertips to remove the eye makeup. Basically it works like a makeup remover in a balm version, altho for me i would still use a cleanser after water for double the cleanliness.

2. Belif Moisturizing eye bomb.

I believe that Belif has far too much samples for this particular product and I’ve received plenty for the true aqua bomb and moisturising bomb etc. However j find that they are all pretty alike and hard to distinguish, they have the same texture and scent, maybe just the slight different colour to tell them apart. Otherwise, they work like the same moisturiser except that this one is meant for the surrounding eye area.

3. Laura Mercier Caviar stick eye colour in Rosegold.

Swatch pic is from temptalia.com. I like Laura Mercier but they are much more known for the loose powder or their foundation primer which is the HG for all. Mostly. I’ve never heard of this product before but I believe there are quite a few similar products in the market as this. Basically its an eyeshadow stick, if you’re going for a one or two tone shadow look. I personally do not like this type of shadow sticks as i find that they dont blend as easily with the powders that i usually layer with.

4. NARS Velvet matte lip pencil in 5855 ‘Lets go crazy’.

A hot fuschia pink that I’ve seen lots of soccer mumsies and young grannies wearing. God i hate this shade!! Why give a shade that most women won’t reach out for, because the shade is too bright for me i probably won’t be trying this on at all and will never know how the consistency is like throughout the day to even purchase a nicer shade in the full size. Bummer.

5. Sephora Rouge matte lipstick in M11 Rebel chic.

This lipstick. This lipstick came squashed to the cap, because the bottom broke off the tube itself. -_- But I’m not mad at it because its easy to push back inside the tube plus the shade is actully quite nice, a dark  berry red (unlike the nars lipstick) and its also matte. Also, if you notice, most Sephora rouge lipstick smells like berries.

6. Chloé eau de parfum Sublime Rose.

This has such a soft feminine scent just as described, the rose is not overwhelming like the smell of a great old aunt, it has a baby rose scent which is softer and not overpowering to the nose (and mind) I will definitely be using this once my Burberry sample is done.

I was excited for this box as there was 2 lip products that came together, but then i hated one shade and they weren’t products that can be used in conjunction together. I like the Sephora rouge, Farmacy cleansing balm & Chloé parfum. While the other half, i hate the NARS colour, im sick of getting Belif products. The laura mercier caviar stick, could be nice product, but i wont use it. So thats it for February. 💓

SEPHORA PLAY BOX 🐚 SEPTEMBER 2017 🐚

SEPHORA
PLAY BOX
SEPTEMBER 2017

September comes with 6 samples with at least 3 makeup products and 2 skincare, the last one product being haircare. Theme is “a change of face” with a very pretty pink polyester-satin like bag.

1. Belif the true cream - aqua bomb.

Sometimes i find myself confused with all the Belif samples i own. Because they mostly have the same look alike packaging with slight difference like the mark colour, and then there is two with the same ‘the true cream’ this one however is the aqua bomb (the other is moisturizing bomb).

So the aqua bomb is in light aqua blue colour and has a slight herbal scent. Absorbent power is quite good and doesnt leave a greasy or sticky feel after application.

2. Algenist power recharging night pressed serum.

This is meant to be a combination of a serum and a cream which turns out to be like a balm type of texture. It looks firm but when warmed by the fingertips it easily melts softer into the face. I like this product alot eventhough its hard to tell the difference the next day. But it is supposedly meant to recharge your skin from fatigue, dull, uneven texture.

3. Benefit gimme brow shade #5.

Right off the brush you can see that the colour is a very dark dull black grey shade. It doesn’t even look deep brown imo. On to the product itself- I do not like it.

As an asian woman i find that we mostly have straight brows with little to no arch unless we go for a waxing or threading session to reshape the brows. At the same time, our brows are very sparse with hair and not as bushy or defined as oppose to the indians or the caucasians. Hence why this type of brush product does not work well alone in shaping and has to be used in conjunction with a brow pen or brow wax in order to define the shape first before using this to fill it in.

For the sake of comparison this is the colour swatch for all 6 shades (in fact, the real tea is that only 1,3&5 was released at first and then after the other shades came out.) I think the #4 medium would’ve suited me better, in fact, i think no one will look good with 5 & 6 at all.

4. Sephora 12hour Crayon contour eye pencil.

I swapped this without even opening or swatching it because i really did not need another black crayon/pencil eyeliner that i never use because they all smudge. What i really needed is a good ass liquid pen eyeliner that stays all day without smudging.

5. Urban decay vice liquid lipstick in Amulet.

The applicator is longer than the usual doe foot one you see, and helps to spread product much faster on the lips. It is also at a slight angle instead of stick straight. (There is actually the bullet version of this lipstick too!) Amulet has a unique metallic finish yet keeping the product still a matte texture. The shade is a warm plummy red brown that might pull darker on some skintones. I love the shade and this might be my favourite product tested from this box.

6. Bumble & bumble Hairdresser’s invisible oil shampoo and conditioner.

The last product feels like an added bonus but i can only keep hair products at the moment until i remive my dreadlocks away. It is rather hard to experiment with different hair products when you are only supposed to use a certain product meant for dreads. Hence this product will be tested at a later date.

Overall, i love the UD vice liquid lipstick and also the Algenist recharge serum. I did not like the gimme brow product at all, altho points for trying to bring in the Benefit brand (just wished it was a different better working product like the bronzers/blushers maybe). Sad points for the sephora crayon and hair sample that i didnt need. And neutral feelings for the Belif aqua bomb. Thats all for September’s box.

IPSY #TB SEPTEMBER 2017

IPSY GLAM BAG
SEPTEMBER 2017

September 2017’s bag was one of the lost & found archives in my iphone’s chock full of photo gallery. And so i surprisingly found some older Ipsy bags on here. Lets make it short & simple for this one.

1. Skin food Black sugar mask wash off.

Happy to report that i already have this in full size and its amazing to use! The sample size is quite generous, the full size never seems to finish off. Scent is sweet but not overwhelming, the sugar granules are just nice in size not too big nor too tiny. What i love the most is that once you begin scrubbing on your face, the sugar dissolves and turns softer so that it doesnt hurt the skin in an abrasive manner. After washing off you can tell youve got some of the dullness and stubborn white heads off.

2. Elizabeth Mott pop eye shadow in Toasted.

Toasted is a bronze metal shade which I rarely would wear unless in the middle of the eye as i find the colour suits more for mature age group.

3. Luxie Rose gold Medium angled shading eye brush 207.

Yes i love Luxie brushes. Cruelty free, pretty pink handle, rose gold ferrule. This angled brush is great for blending in the crease of the eye.

4. Smasbox Photo finish Radiance Foundation Primer.

Unlike the normal clear silicon primer, this version of Smashbox’s primer has brightening highlighting particles that gives off a much more radiant appearance. Its glimmering gold but once blended out across the face, appears more natural. Only thing I dislike is the scent of the primer, has a plastic chemical sort of smell that sticks in your head. On a bright side, it does help to make your foundation above appear brighter and last longer.

5. Pixi by petra blush duo in honey peach.

Right off the bat, I did not swatch this as i gave it away in a swap. The blush seems to be too shimmery for me and I’d usually prefer a matte version for blushers. The duo colour does seem pretty tho.

Hence thats all for September’s glam bag! On a side note, i do love the spiky matte black bag tho. I use it again as a makeup bag to bring to work.

ALLURE 🍏 FEBRUARY 2018 🍏

ALLURE
BEAUTY BOX
FEBRUARY 2018

February’s box has 5 products inside with at least 2 bigger sized products that can last you quite a while.

1. Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint mascara 4.5ml (sgd$19)

This is the travel sized version at 4.5ml, i have the full size one from a Tarte set that I bought before, i like the bristles of the mascara as they’re spiky but closely packed to each other so it picks up and deposits products easily. The spikes also help to separate lashes from clumps.

2. Juice beauty Phyto Pigments Lip in Gwyneth.

A shade named and curated by Gwyneth Paltrow herself, this particular berry shade really does represents her image well. Altho its not a shade that I would wear often, the outcome is quite nice as a stain instead of a full on thick gloss.

Pardon the redness of my skin without any foundation on. Its a really pretty berry pink stain. Its also moisturising and non sticky at all. It helped hydrate my dry lips too. After using this my lips stopped cracking and splitting up. Thumbs up Gwyneth for an amazing product 👍🏾

3. Skinfix minty mint repair balm.

Another product that helps repair the lips for the dry dehydrated ones. This is super minty for me, i dont usually like mints, but in a balm it always helps to make the lips feel more refreshed. Also infused with 40% of coconut oil.

4. Kale + Spinach Green tea Hyaluronic acid - Youth to the people.

I get foster the people vibes whenever i read the name of this product out. It even looks like a very hipster product with the logo and packed in a carton box heh. This product has a very light scent which smells quite nice, and also a light weight texture. I use it as moisturiser after applying my serum and it absorbs into the skin pretty well without leaving any sort of greasiness behind. Not too sure about the age prevention claim tho.

5. CLE essence moonlighter cushion.

Anyone would easily assume that this is one of those korean bb cushion foundation type of thing, close but not quite.

It is actually a cushion highlighter. So its not meant for the whole face, just the points you want to glitter and shine. Also comes with an egg shaped cushion sponge. The shade is called ‘Glinting buff’ its like a golden brown. There is also more obvious gold glitter specks irl actually but its blendable.

And thats all of February’s Allure beauty box. I like that there is brands like Tarte, Juice beauty, Skinfix. Then there’s also new brands to discover like ‘CLE’ and ‘Youth to the people.’ With good products received too. This month’s box is approved 👍🏾

BOXYCHARM 💫 FEBRUARY 2018 💫

BOXYCHARM
FEBRUARY 2018
GALAXY GLOW

So the difference in this month’s box is that you dont see the usual blush or eyeshadow palettes (unless you got the other variation which comes with the Naked cosmetics highlighter palette.) Honestly, im not a huge highlighting psycho and with all the highlighters I’ve been receiving lately I’m actually glad that I did not get that palette this time round.

1. Ofra Pop up palette mini ($19) & Blush godet refill($12).

I like this far better than getting the highlighter palete because I’ve never owned one of this magnetic customizable palettes before. And to make it better, it also comes with a Blush from Ofra cosmetics. This is the winter rose glow blush, really pretty warm rosey shade. Its magnetic hence just pop it in the palette and we are good to go! (Swatches below)

2. Cover fx shimmer veil in Amethyst ($28).

This is something new and different that i have yet to actually discover how to really make full use of it. When swatched, it has a really nice shimmery highlight pigmentation, but then it dries down. Cover fx says that this has multi use, mostly i see that its used on the eyelids, but can also be used as liner, highlighter and on the lips as well. Btw this is full size 4ml!! (Swatches below)

3. Crown pro trio brush set ($29.99).

This looks exactly like the wet n wild new brush roll 17pcs collection tho im not sure who came out first so 🤷🏻‍♀️. These are high grade synthetic fibers, small brush is good for concealer and spot control, medium is for foundation or face contour and the large brush is for setting powders.

4. Vintage cosmetics Jet black smokey eye pencil ($21).

This looks like a normal black eyeliner pencil and seems a bit overpriced to be above $20, however the pencil is actually really smooth and creamy, very pigmented jet black and does not tug or pull or leave pathetic grey lines. Only gripe is that yes you have to sharpen it!! (Swatches below)

5. PÜR X-faux lips - plumping lip exfoliator ($17).

Infused with shea butter, raw sugar & exfoliating beads, this exfoliating crayon smells super delicious like a sweet treat and it also helps exfoliate, plump, hydrate & soothes.

The swatch does not look obvious but the sugar particles are really tiny and non abrasive at all! It does feel slightllllly sticky but of course you still have to wipe off after exfoliating so not a problem there. And on my last days of pregnancy, my lips are getting drier and drier by the second, so this will come in handy.

Swatches:

I love this month’s box! Really gave me a few useful products like the magnetic palette and also i love receiving brush sets from boxycharm too. And the full size highly sought after shimmer veil is really worth the value. 👍🏾 February’s box will really keep you glowing.
